Robertson Smooth-Flow Louvre System

The unique aerofoil blade of the smooth-flow louvre system provides for a pleasing architectural feature which at the same time offers enhanced aerodynamic and weathering performance. Extremely versatile, smooth-flow louvres can be installed into any configuration of wall facade. It also acts as a visually attractive screening system.

An important feature of the smooth-flow design is that it allows water to drain completely from both sides of the blade - there is no ridge or receptacle that can allow an unsightly silt pool to form or where potentially lethal bacteria could contaminate the ventilation system.

The system is available in 50, 80 and 100mm pitches and may be supplied in continuous form with pre-assembled mullions and metal clips. It is also available in modular and interlocking formats.

The intrinsic strength of the system means that in many applications there may be a reduced requirement for secondary supporting steelwork. This can lead to significant cost savings and increased ventilation performance.

Standard louvre aerodynamic testing :
The performance of the standard louvre has been proven by laboratory and site testing and also verified by the use of the latest computer modelling techniques. Typical airflow characteristics are illustrated below.

Configuration
The smooth-flow system can be supplied in a modular format i.e. factory assembled in frames or "site built" continuous. Irrespective of format each opening will comprise a variety of the following items.

1. Front louvre blades.
There are three commonly used profile blades which can be identified by their vertical spacing -50, 80 and 100mm. The examples show smooth-flow 50 and 100 blades. The blades are supplied to site in lengths, typically of around 6.0m. The blades join on metal clips with a small gap for thermal expansion and structural movement. The effect is of a continuous appearance with hidden mullions and no visible fixings.

2. Second and third pass louvre blades.
Each of the front louvre blades has a corresponding set of rear blades which are, typically, up to 1.25m long. These blades provide additional high levels of weathering. They are either supplied as factory assembled modules or loose for site assembly.

3. Mullions
The mullion system is designed for a complete knock-down louvre system. There are 2 basic mullions -standard and extra. The mullion type is selected according to wind load requirements. The louvre blade mounting clips are factory fitted to the mullions.

4. Infill
A comprehensive range of infill media options is available to fit between the mullions:
Bird guard - mill finish or coated aluminium mesh.
Insect mesh - woven aluminium, stainless steel or nylon mesh.
Blanking panels:
a. uninsulated: 1.5mm alloy sheet, mill finish or coated.
b. insulated: 1.5mm outer sheet, 1.0mm inner, mill finish or coated, infill to thermal or acoustic specification.

5. Perimeter frames
Extruded or folded to suit each application usually from 1.5mm aluminium, colour coated as required. Supplied up to 6.0m as a continuous single length.

6. Fixing cleats
Each louvre system is supplied with 3mm mill finish aluminium fixing cleats, complete with fixings to connect to the mullions.

7. Misc. fixings, sealants
All mechanical fixings required to assemble the louvres are automatically included.

8. Maintenance
The standard louvre system is designed to require minimal maintenance. However, it is necessary that the blades be regularly cleaned and inspected for damage.
